49 Doughty Street. Just as Dickens was known to entertain his guests in his own Drawing Room so will you experience this performance in a similar setting within the Museum. The performance space can be accessed via the lift.
Doors will open 10 minutes prior to the start time. Due to the small size of the theatre space, no latecomers will be admitted.

The Signal-Man is one of the most powerful ghost stories of all time, and certainly the most frightening ever written by Charles Dickens. It is paired here with The Trial for Murder, in which Dickens treats the supernatural with just as much terrifying gravity. This delightfully macabre double bill was described by renowned horror novelist Ramsey Campbell as ‘an unforgettable experience’ thanks to the ‘prodigious and extraordinary talent’ of actor James Swanton.
The monstrous thought came into my mind, as I perused the fixed eyes and the saturnine face, that this was a spirit, not a man.
A red light. A black tunnel. A waving figure. A warning beyond understanding. And the fear that someone – that something – is drawing closer...
